Present and future homebuyers and sellers are invited to learn more about the housing industry at the annual Home Fair and Expo in Hilo this weekend.

Hawaii Island Realtors is hosting its eighth Home Fair and Expo on Saturday to bring industry experts to one location and provide the community with free educational resources about buying and selling homes.

“The main purpose of the event is to connect the industry to the community and bring contractors to people looking to buy or sell their homes,” said Hawaii Island Realtors Executive Officer Ashley Mejia. “People put large amounts of money into important home decisions, so it’s crucial to meet with contractors and businesses face to face.”

The expo will feature 44 industry experts and companies, such as lenders, Realtor brokerages, civil engineers, junk removal companies, designers, home-stagers, solar companies, electric companies, home inspectors and more, according to Mejia.

Some vendors include Aloha Signs Plus, Backyard Monkey, EZ Pickups Hawaii, Hawaii Island Waste, Island Home Loans, Makai Mortgage, Miracle Botanicals, Pahoa Property Perspectives, Rock Solid Home Inspections and Walter’s Electric.

While navigating the housing industry can be difficult for people with and without experience, Hawaii Island Realtors puts on the event to make it a little easier and bring everyone to one place. Attendees will be able to see the quality of work by each vendor in front of them and make sure to get good contact information for the future, if they’re interested.

“Over the years we’ve done this, we’ve heard a lot of success stories where people have found lenders who could help them purchase a home or connected to contractors who were perfect for home upgrades,” Mejia said. “Home buying and selling can be a long and stressful process, so we hope people can enjoy at least this part of the process.”

The event also includes entertainment by Puna Taiko, the Waiakea Intermediate Ukulele Club and N2 Dance, as well as food trucks for lunch options and plenty of games and activities for keiki.

There also will be a chance to win prizes, which include home maintenance items and a keiki playhouse.

This year’s expo will feature the nonprofit Friends of the Children’s Justice Center of East Hawaii, which will have information about its mission of meeting the needs of abused and neglected children and enriching their lives as much as possible.

Those interested in learning more about the housing industry and finding resources can visit the Home Fair and Expo for free from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at Aunt Sally Kaleohano’s La‘au Hale.
